Presented by Heartland Film Inc., an innovator in the filmmaking industry, Indy Shorts International Film Fest (Indy Shorts), will be returning for its second year July 25-28 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields. In support of the annual Heartland International Film Festival, Indy Shorts exclusively features short films 40 minutes or less in length, and it is the largest short film festival in the Midwest with over 100 films shown.

Indy Shorts features films that will eventually qualify for the Academy Awards® with winners to show encore screenings at Heartland International Film Festival in October. Indy Shorts is an Academy Award ®-qualifying film festival in the short film categories Best Narrative Short Film and Best Documentary Short Film. Short films featured in past years have moved on to be short-listed, nominated and winners of Academy Awards®. In fact, “Period. End of Sentence,” a finalist in last year’s Indy Shorts Int’l Film Festival, went on to win the 2019 Academy Award® for Best Documentary Short.
Indy Shorts is one of the largest cash awarding short film festivals in North America and will bestow $30,000 in cash prizes across multiple categories.

Indy Shorts Finalists – Indy Shorts finalists will make up two programs during the festival, which will include the top five short films for each category, including documentary, narrative and animated.
Indy Shorts Official Selections – Enjoy additional programs of Indy Shorts Official Selections throughout the four-day event.
Indiana Spotlight – Showcases talented filmmakers from the Hoosier state. Must meet two of the following criteria for eligibility: 65 percent of the film was shot in Indiana, the director is a current Indiana resident or native, or the producer/executive producer/writer is a current Indiana resident or native.
High School Film Competition – Encourages tomorrow’s filmmakers to get involved with the Festival. Directors must have been in high school when the film was completed and must not have graduated from high school any earlier than Summer 2018.
Joyce Forum – Award-winning short films from The Joyce Forum at the San Diego Jewish Film Festival that portray the Jewish experience from contemporary and historical perspectives. Partnering with the Jewish Community Center, the Joyce Forum shorts will be shown at the JCC on Aug. 28 along with other shorts at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
