Nicholas Snow is thrilled to welcome Jax Kelly, JD, MPH, MBA, to this episode of Life Positive, “spotlighting people living with, impacted by, and/or working to bring about the end of HIV/AIDS.”

An award-winning LGBTQ community leader and advocate for over three decades…

David “Jax” Kelly, JD, MPH, MBA, a Palm Springs resident since 2014 and recently honored by Greater Palm Springs Pride and Brothers of the Desert, thrives as a leader of community non-profit organizations. Having stepped down from three years of leadership of a $2 million endowment as Treasurer and Trustee of the Palm Springs Public Library Board to attend on-line classes at USC, Jax completed his Master of Public Health degree in health services and policy in 2022 while continuing his leadership as President (since 2019) of Let’s Kick ASS Palm Springs, a 501(c)3 organization engaged in social, educational, and advocacy activities for witnesses to the HIV/AIDS plague years. With degrees from Fordham University School of Law and NYU Stern School of Business, Jax has often relied on his legal and financial knowledge to benefit his leadership of LGBT non-profit organizations.

Jax enjoys creative writing and has been published in DESERT Magazine and was featured in a live performance for the first Desert Sun Storytellers series. One piece titled Last Train from New York was published in a collaboration between PEN Center USA and the Palm Springs Writers Guild. He is an avid baseball fan having been a banking officer for Major League Baseball and a pop music follower who had Michael Jackson for a lending client. His husband Clayton Koppes, an emeritus history professor and former Dean of Oberlin College, is writing a book on the history of HIV/AIDS in America. Both Jax and his husband enjoy travel and have visited cities from Palermo to Hong Kong; traversed countries like Australia, New Zealand and Brazil; and driven through most regions of the United States. Traveling to Africa and competing in a triathlon remain on Jax’s bucket list.
