On this special World AIDS Day episode of Life Positive, Nicholas Snow welcomes Mark DeJarnett and Andrew Glorioso from DAP Health’s Department of Community Health and Sexual Wellness, to discuss the role of PrEP in bringing about the end of the HIV/AIDS Pandemic. Life Positive – created, produced and hosted by Nicholas Snow – spotlights people living with, impacted by, and/or working to bring about the end of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, most commonly administered as a daily pill that can help prevent HIV. PrEP is now available via in an injectable form as well. PrEP is a way for people who do not have HIV to prevent getting it by taking a daily pill. Along with other prevention methods like condoms, PrEP can offer good protection against HIV if taken every day. DAP Health offers PrEP Talks – a free one-on-one appointment to talk with a PrEP Navigator about this medication to prevent HIV. This service is open to the public, for anyone who’d like to talk in depth about PrEP, get their questions answered, and get the facts. DAP Health is further removing barriers to access to sexual wellness services by offering free STI testing and treatment, free HIV self-testing (pick up the test in person or receive it via US mail), and free Hepatitis C screening.
