ALL ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Third Eye Blind, Jody Watley, A Flock of Seagulls, The Robyn Party, Shannon, and Jeanie Tracy top the 35th annual Greater Palm Springs Pride Festival. The Festival will celebrate and embrace the region’s diverse LGBTQ community as part of Pride week November 1-7 in downtown Palm Springs on Arenas Rd. and Palm Canyon Drive. The annual worldwide Pride theme is You Are Included.

Alternative rock band Third Eye Blind headlines the Festival and sets the stage for an unprecedented and diverse group of LGBTQ and allied performers in the Palm Springs Pride lineup. Third Eye Blind will play a 60-minute set Saturday, Nov 6. The Festival will be free (with a suggested donation) and include 70 pop, drag, rock’ n’ roll, country, and Broadway-style performances over three days.

The Festival will occur in outdoor venues and include three days of dancing in the streets on Arenas Rd between Indian Canyon and Calle Encilia. On Palm Canyon Drive, the Festival will be between Amado and Tahquitz and the surrounding area of the new City Park (Museum Way and Belardo Rd). There will be open-air beverage lounges, food vendors, a festival marketplace, T-Mobile Youth Zone, and a Children’s Garden for the kids.

There’s something for everyone at the most significant annual LGBTQ street party in Palm Springs. Festival highlights include the Art of Pride with LGBTQ artists, free health resources, including COVID-19 testing, vaccinations, and HIV testing sites. Take your photo with Diva, the 20′ tall pink poodle, or Arty, the 20′ tall cuddly leather bear. Weekend hosts include Bella da Ball, Jason Stuart, Shann Carr, and Scott Nevins.

“After the stress, uncertainty, and isolation of the pandemic, this is a significant time for our community to come together. Pride will be a coming-out celebration of our beautiful community, an opportunity to honor those we have lost and give a voice to the power of self-expression, inclusiveness, and love,” said Ron deHarte, President and CEO of Greater Palm Springs Pride. “We celebrate and use the Pride platform to resist hate, intolerance, racism, and bigotry. Together we affirm our fight for immigration reform, access to health care, and trans rights.”

San Francisco Dykes on Bikes®️ Women’s Motorcycle Contingent to Ride in Palm Springs Pride Parde for the First Time and Special Unit Featured to Highlight the 71 Countries that Criminalize Homosexuality.

Greater Palm Springs Pride celebrates the live return of the colorful Palm Springs Pride Parade with the theme You Are Included. Known for its crystal blue skies and year-round sunshine, the city of Palm Springs and Palm Canyon Drive will come alive during the annual Pride celebration on Sunday, November 7. Spectators will gather along palm tree-lined streets to cheer and support local organizations, activists, marching groups, and themed floats.

PromoHomo.TV® coverage begins at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, and The Parade steps off at 10:00 a.m., on Sunday, November 7, in the Uptown Design District on N. Palm Canyon Drive at E. Tachevah Drive, traveling south to downtown ending at the entrance to the Pride Festival at Amado Rd. Enjoy emcee commentary as parade contingents move along Palm Canyon Dr. and pass by official reviewing stands. The Parade usually lasts two hours and is a free event.

The PromoHomo.TV® broadcast will be set up in front of EIGHT4NINE Restaurant & Lounge at 849 N. Palm Canyon Blvd.

President of Greater Palm Springs Pride Ron deHarte said, “Our Pride Week calls on the community to gather and embrace our diversity, our resilience, and raise awareness of the collective power of the LGBTQ community. Parade participants help raise awareness of important issues, including immigration reform, racial justice, access to health care, violence against transgender members of our community, and mental health awareness. The Pride parade is an opportunity to gather in celebration and use the platform that Pride provides to peacefully resist hate, discrimination, intolerance, racism, and bigotry added deHarte.”

A special parade contingent will highlight the 71 countries that outlaw same-sex relations between consenting adults as a way of demonstrating how far the fight for LGBTQ rights has come and how much work there is still to do for full equality. Seventy-one flags in the Parade will represent a country where it’s illegal to be LGBTQ. These include large parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, with a high intolerance of homosexuality. Being gay in Afghanistan, Brunei, Mauritania, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, and Iran is one of the most significant “crimes,” and “offenders” face death. In countries where homosexuality is banned but not punished by death, “offenders” face being flogged or imprisoned. They are also stripped of their human and political rights and treated as third-class citizens.

A surprise parade entry includes the Executive Board of the San Francisco Dykes on Bikes®️ Women’s Motorcycle Contingent, who will roll into Palm Springs for the organization’s first time in its 45-year history. The throttling engines, loud pipes, and cheering passengers will greet spectators and welcome all motorcyclists who ride in solidarity with the iconic, rebellious, independent women. The queer motorcyclists will be welcomed with thunderous rallying cries, making for a sight to see.

Unique entries in the Parade include LGBTQ supportive businesses, organizations like Brothers of the Desert, PFLAG, Free Mom Hugs, DAP Health, Palm Springs city councilmembers, employees, and the Human Rights Commission. The Desert Winds Freedom Band will return for their 21st year. This year will be the fifteenth appearance of the Palm Springs High School Spirit of the Sands Band and Visual Corps and the tenth appearance for Desert Hot Springs High School “Golden Eagle Regiment” Marching Band.

The Palm Springs Pride parade is known for the significant number of youth marching groups participating from the region’s Gay-Straight Alliance organizations. Up to 500 students representing 56 GSAs are expected to march and represent their school.

The Pride Parade and Festival is made possible by several dozen sponsors, including significant support from the City of Palm Springs, PS Resorts, Effen Vodka, Bud Light Seltzer, the Lighthouse Dispensary Palm Springs & Coachella, KGAY 106.5, and Gay Desert Guide.
