In the heart of Palm Springs, a vibrant beacon of hope is transforming lives and uplifting the community. Sunny Dunes Clubhouse provides a safe, welcoming space where individuals from all walks of life can find solace, healing, and connection on their recovery journeys.
This September, as the nation observes National Recovery Month, the Sunny Dunes Clubhouse is celebrating the profound power of recovery and calling on the community for support.
In this special episode of HIGHRPOWRD® on PromoHomo.TV®, Snow welcomes three of the Sunny Dunes Clubhouse Board members, Chair Soterios Rouman, Co-Chair Michael Burkett, and Membership Chair Kerrie Terry.
Sunny Dunes Clubhouse has become a sanctuary for those seeking recovery from addiction, trauma, and life’s many challenges. It serves as a hub for 12-step and other meetings, fun and fellowship activities and events, all offering ongoing opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives. While focused on the LGBTQ+ community, the clubhouse is not just a place for recovery but also a symbol of inclusion—embracing people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and backgrounds.
You may be wondering, “How come I’ve never heard of the Sunny Dunes Clubhouse?” Well, members of 12-step programs are, by tradition, anonymous at the level of press, radio and films. But the elected leaders of the entity itself, Sunny Dunes, Inc., can, and are going public about their community-transforming work.
Sunny Dunes Clubhouse about 100 meetings per week. The eleven 12-step programs which meet at Sunny Dunes Clubhouse include AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics), Al-Anon, CMA (Crystal Meth Anonymous), CoDA (Co-Dependents Anonymous), DA (Debtors Anonymous), GA (Gamblers Anonymous), MA (Marijuana Anonymous) NA (Narcotics Anonymous), OA (Overeaters Anonymous) and SLAA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous), plus the non-12-step program, Recovery Dharma.
“By fostering a safe and welcoming LGBTQ+ recovery community, Sunny Dunes Clubhouse provides support to all people seeking or in recovery,” explains Soterios Rouman, Board Chair of the non-profit Sunny Dunes, Inc. which operates the clubhouse, “whether they are in their first days, being bussed in from local recovery centers, or they are decades along in their recovery, continuing to participate as part of Sunny Dunes Clubhouse for connection and purpose.”
