The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce previously announced a groundbreaking addition to the prestigious Palm Springs Walk of the Stars. In collaboration with the LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert, a special designation will be introduced to honor LGBTQ+ trailblazers who have left an indelible mark on the city’s vibrant history.
Since its inception in 1992, the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars has celebrated over 460 luminaries, including entertainers, humanitarians, civic leaders, architects, artists, authors, athletes, and veterans. These honorees, while recognized for their outstanding achievements, have varied in terms of recognition throughout their lifetimes. The new ‘Out on the Walk’ exhibition aims to spotlight notable LGBTQ+ figures who have played a pivotal role in shaping the welcoming environment for the LGBTQ+ community that defines the greater Palm Springs area today.
Nona Watson, the CEO of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to see this exhibition coming to fruition! The team at LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert have worked extremely hard to make this special for Walk of the Stars and our community.”
David Gray and Julie Warren, Co-Founders & Co-Directors of the LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert, stated, “We were happy to collaborate with the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars and the City of Palm Springs, to identify and recognize the deserving individuals who will be recognized with this new designation. We are excited to be sharing their stories and calling attention to these deserving LGBT contributors to our community.” Sponsors for the exhibit, as of press time, include the City of Palm Springs, David Hood & George Sellers, The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, KGAY/Gay Desert Guide, Diane McKenzie, CV Independent, Thomas Brown & Bill Coughlin, and Ken Seeley Communities.
Along with viewing the exhibit, visitors to the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars website and app will find both updated. This innovative endeavor is poised to magnify the prominence of the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars, resonating with LGBTQ+ tourists and locals who frequent the area.
